And not just any happy hour-- that of Clyde Common. I've been twice before for dinner with both my family and Davis' and really enjoyed the vibe, the food, the whole thing. It's kind of a quintessential Portland place. So, a few ladies from school and I headed there to enjoy some local flavor and we certainly got it. $5 cocktails (including one called "Heavy Petting"- yes) $3 small plates (we made sure to get the pickled vegetables because, "We can pickle that!") all served to us by hipsters in ironic glasses. Dig it.
Then a couple plopped down next to us at one of the large, communal tables and just sat there reading books. Separately. During busy happy hour. Very Portland? Or very odd relationship...Either way, it was a good time. And got me primed to then head over to the east side for a study date with another friend from school.
This place is kind of a Portland legend for students, readers, or people who like to stay highly sugared and caffeinated. Nestled in the uber-desirable neighborhood of Ladd's Addition (one of Portland's oldest residential districts), Palio Dessert and Espresso House is the perfect place to go to spread out and get some work done. Or eat some cake. Or knit by the window. Anything goes.
It was pretty mellow this rainy evening, but cozy and charming with fogged-up windows all around.
