Dressed Up

Hey! It's 2014! And I kind of completely dropped off the face of the earth for a while there, huh.

Well I'm back now and have something pretty awesome to share.

My husband has become a carpenter overnight.

And it's kind of awesome.

Let's take a step back.

So, I'm not sure if you know, but our house is filled with the bustling excitement of newly-relocated family! Davis' sis and her hubby and our cutie pie nephew are staying with us along with their pup Banana and two cats! There's never a dull moment around here and we are pumped to have these guys as our fellow Portlandians now.

In preparation for their arrival, we realized that we would probably need to have some sort of dresser in the guest room so they don't have to live out of suitcases while they're here. We looked on craig's list and stuff and then Davis said, "Hey! Why don't I make the dresser?" Huh? You?

D has very very little experience with woodworking, and wants to learn more about it but thought his first project might be something like a cutting board or a coat rack...a dresser?

But my husband is a very smart and capable dude so we agreed to go for it, and after finding a (somewhat incomplete) plan online for a knock-off of this adorable dresser from West Elm, we couldn't resist making this our little project for the days/nights leading up to Christmas time.
The inspiration
Let's check out my dude at work, shall we?
Frame completed and his first ever drawer! She's a beauty
Creating his Frankenstein
Drawer faces in place, to make sure they fit
Here's where I come in-- paint town! And look at those hand-crafted drawers
Also my job- staining!
And then...it all came together, the day before our new house mates arrived...
Ta Da!!!!!
So proud of this thing! We're still going to add legs to it, but kind of ran out of time. For now, it's lookin' like this and it's an awesome addition to our guest room : )
There she is, in her new home
We've got a whole lot of DIY projects up our sleeves for the new year, and are working bit by bit to bring our house into the 21st century. More to come soon! Hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season and my sincerest apologies for the lag in blog time. I'll try to be better this year ; )
