Spring, Strings, and Islands

Hello there! Greetings from the land of long-awaited springtime. This has been the most gorgeous weekend to date, clear skies from Friday afternoon on and temps in the mid 70's. Cue the outdoor activities!

Saturday morning, we headed to the downtown Farmer's Market which has resumed after taking a few months off as the weather got yucky. I had missed it terribly and am SO glad to have it back. We picked up some veggies and lots of free samples and drooled over all the beautiful plants for sale. One day...when we have a yard...
And on the way home I gazed up into some trees. Sigh.
That evening, we hit up some food carts for dinner in NE Portland to prolong the outside enjoyment, before heading to a concert at the Wonder Ballroom. Who did we see? The Infamous Stringdusters. A Valentine's Day present from Davis that I finally got to cash in on : ) They are absolutely one of my faves. And they KILLED it. As always.
And the crowd was super into it. Hopefully they'll come back again soon!

And Sunday. Keeping true to its name, another beaut. We hopped on our bikes and headed north to Sauvie Island. It's about 10 miles each way, and a trip I'd been wanting to make since last year but somehow never got around to it. It's between the Willamette River (which runs through Portland) and the Columbia River (which separates Oregon from Washington) and is mainly farmland and wildlife areas, houses about 1000 people year-round and boasts amazing views of our major peaks- Mt. Saint Helens, Mt. Adams, and Mt. Hood. It's kind of my new favorite place.
Taking a break before crossing the bridge on to the island-- St. Helens playing peek-a-boo on the left!
Historic house on some gorgeous country land-- feels like we're back in the South
Anybody want to buy this lovely plot? Complimentary views of St. Helens!
This looks like a perfect naptime spot
45? Yeah, we were definitely going that fast the whole time : )
Floating houses! These are always fun
Getting ready to head back home
A friendly fellow cyclist offered to take our picture, thanks dude!
It was a really gorgeous ride, and we certainly weren't the only ones out enjoying it. The roads were pretty packed with cyclists and cars alike, but we still caught the sights and got some good exercise. Almost 30 miles in all, whew! Hooray for lovely weekends!

Back to the grind tomorrow, and headed home to Virginia Wednesday night! So excited to see my girls and celebrate the wedding of my sweet friends Ann and Travis, and take care of a bunch of things for my own wedding which is 2 months from tomorrow...WHAT? Very exciting : )

Love to you all!
